My name is Ian Rivera, and I have been learning the Chinese language and exploring its culture for one year. I'm 12 years old and attend Washington International School. Chinese culture has had a profound impact on my growth, changing my perspective on various topics and transforming the way I think. It has also taught me to approach learning the language in a completely different way.

One important aspect of Chinese culture that has significantly influenced my perspective is the food. Chinese cuisine is diverse, and each dish holds cultural significance. Learning about this has reshaped the way I view Chinese culture. Food is more than just sustenance; it represents an integral part of the culture and its values.

My experience with Chinese food has enriched my understanding of this culture and deepened my appreciation for its traditions. One of the most memorable moments I had was making mooncakes, which are a traditional food during the Mid-Autumn Festival. This experience taught me why mooncakes are so meaningful to Chinese people, and I gained insight into the values of family and tradition that are associated with them. Plus, they were delicious!

Over the past year, I've also learned a lot about different festivals and celebrations in Chinese culture, such as the Lunar New Year. I discovered that during the Lunar New Year, older family members give money to the younger ones in red envelopes, wishing them good fortune for the coming year. The red color itself is deeply symbolic, representing good luck and joy in Chinese culture.

Learning Chinese language and culture has been an incredible journey. It's not just about the words or the traditions—it's about gaining a new way of seeing the world.
