Over the past three years I have spent learning about the Chinese language and culture, I have been inspired in so many ways. I always enjoy classes, field trips, and celebrating chinese holidays. I have had an amazing experience throughout the past few years, and I can’t wait to learn more this year. At the beginning, I was slightly hesitant about taking this elective, but now I am so glad I made the decision to be in the Chinese program at my school. Every class is always so fun and informative, and it has broadened my perspective.
I started Chinese as a 6th grader, and now I am starting 8th grade. I have enjoyed so many experiences over these past years. Chinese culture has opened my eyes to a rich history and culture. I love field trips to Chinese supermarkets, where we buy white rabbit candy. Celebrating Chinese holidays has also led me to trying new foods. Not only have those experiences made my taste buds happy, but they have also introduced me to the concept that food is a bridge to connect with people. I enjoyed celebrating the lunar new year by performing a dragon dance in front of our middle school, and informing them about the holiday. Furthermore, I think there are many interesting beliefs that come from Chinese culture. For example, how some numbers are considered lucky or unlucky, like how the numbers 6 and 8 are lucky, while the number 4 is considered unlucky. I also enjoy learning about calligraphy and writing in Chinese. It has helped me find beauty in simple things. Learning about Chinese culture has given me a deeper appreciation of human civilization, and it has made me feel more connected to the global community.
In conclusion, learning about Chinese culture has made me want to inquire and explore more, and it has made every day an adventure. This has enriched my life in countless ways. Not only have I gotten the opportunity to participate in traditions, but I have also gained knowledge that has inspired me to celebrate diversity. Learning about Chinese culture has helped my personal growth, and I’m so happy I have the opportunity to experience something like this that will stick with me for the rest of my life.
